The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is established for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption. The duty of every food business operator is to ensure that the articles of food satisfy the requirements of the Act and the rules and regulations made thereunder at all stages of production, processing, import, distribution and sale within the businesses under his control.
